Ice Sculpting Masters Drive-thru Event at the New York State Fairgrounds Features More Than 90 Sculptures

Holiday Event Offers New Yorkers a Family-Friendly, Fun, and Safe Way to Celebrate the Season

Top ice sculptors from around the country will carve more than 150,000 pounds of ice into more than 90 sculptures as part of a new drive-thru holiday season event at the New York State Fairgrounds. The event, called Ice Sculpture Masters, will take place Dec. 30 through Jan. 3 from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Admission per vehicle will be $20 plus taxes and fees. Tickets are available here.

The event is operated by Stan Kolonko of East Syracuse’s The Ice Farm, a frequent exhibitor at the Great New York State Fair and other events. Current plans call for 16 large sculptures and approximately 75 single-block carvings to be displayed along the streets of the Fairgrounds’ Empire RV Park. Patrons will drive a path through the park to see the structures as holiday music plays. They will exit through an inflatable igloo, where two giant ice carvings will provide the dramatic finale.

Troy Waffner, State Fair Director, said, “We’re very excited about this new event and hope it can become an annual tradition in Central New York. Stan is an artist and I know he and his team will produce a top-notch event that will give us all a reason to get out of the house for a fun holiday event that is safe and socially distanced.”

Stan Kolonko, owner of The Ice Farm, said, “Central New Yorkers are going to see some really exciting sculptures from some amazingly talented sculptors. We’re putting together an event that will be safe, fun and affordable and I hope everyone circles these dates on their calendars.”

In line with state guidance on public events during the COVID-19 outbreak, visitors must stay in their vehicles. There will be no food service at the event.
