Enjoy Ice Sculptures, Experience Cultures, Shoot Hoops for Charity and More at Winter Fair

There’s more to Winter Fair than just the great food, music and rides that are staples of the Great New York State Fair. The all-new experience begins outside the Exposition Center at the New York State Fairgrounds, as visitors to the February 8 - 10 festival will be greeted by unique ice sculptures celebrating winter. The main ice sculpture will be the Winter Fair Snow Globe, presented by Bath Fitter. Other ice sculptures are sponsored by Pathfinder Bank and WellNow Urgent Care.
“While we’re trying to bring the best of the summer State Fair to the winter, we’re also embracing the current season. The dramatic ice sculptures showcase some of the great things about winter in Upstate New York,” said Steve Becker of Premier Promotions, the company that is operating Winter Fair with assistance from the Great New York State Fair.
In addition, several special areas will be featured during Winter Fair. The Indian Village will put native crafts and traditions on display, as it does during the State Fair. Another Fair staple, the Van Robinson Pan-African Village, will also have a presence with African-American businesses and crafters and a display marking Black History Month. Healthcare Village, presented by Kinney Drugs with Molina Insurance serving as Healthcare Insurance Sponsor, will feature important information from ACR Health, New York State Department of Mental Health, American Medical Response (AMR) - Stop the Bleed and Infinity Wellness.
Syracuse’s City Market crafts market will also come to Winter Fair, spotlighting 18 crafters and artisans. City Market is a longtime attraction in downtown Syracuse featuring antiques, ceramics, handmade crafts, home decor, vintage clothing and more.
Charity is also a part of Winter Fair. The local chapter of the NAACP will operate a coat check, keeping half of the income from checking adult coats for $2 and child coats for $1. Syracuse’s Boys and Girls Club will benefit from the Winter Fair Hoops skills event. For $5, a person will get four shots to make three baskets. If they make two, they will receive a fifth shot to try to hit the mark. Proceeds will go to the Jim & Juli Boeheim Foundation, earmarked for the Boys & Girls Club. Prizes include souvenir t-shirts as well as passes to the State Fair, Rosamond Gifford Zoo, The MOST, Thunder Island, Syracuse ComiCon, and movie passes.
Parking for Winter Fair is free. Enter the Fairgrounds through Gate 6 and follow the signs and parking staff directions.
Winter Fair will also feature 17 free performances on its main stage, midway rides and games and more than 100 food, craft and merchandise vendors. The groups that operate the State Fair’s annual Indian Village and Pan-African Village will create mini-villages for the festival as well.
Winter Fair runs 3 p.m. - 11 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Saturday and Noon - 8 p.m. on Sunday. Pre-sale admission is $4 for adults and $2 for seniors age 60 and above and for teens ages 13-17. Children 12 and under are free. A small service fee is added to each ticket, which can be purchased here. At the gate, tickets will be $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and teens and only cash will be accepted. There is no free re-entry.
